House of Slaughter #2
Another great issue. If you're looking for something as incredible as Something is Killing the Children I can see why you might be somewhat disappointed, as this admittedly isn't quite the same, but as an interlude before the main series returns this is shaping up to be a great read.
The focus of this issue was very much on the past, so I loved seeing the development of Jace and Aaron's dynamic in their early days, with Jace fresh to the House of Slaughter and Aaron trying to reach out to him. I thought it nicely started to develop Jace as a character, culminating in a very sweet moment at the end of the issue that was just wholesome to see. The art was awesome again, like I mentioned last issue feeling different enough to Dell'Edera's style on the main title but still feels stylistically in the same world thanks for Muerto's rich colouring.
Mirka Andolfo's Sweet Paprika #5
Another very fun issue of what's turning out to be consistently one of my favourite series on shelves. Which, and I'm sure I say this every time, was not something I expected when I first heard this comic was starting.
It just always provides a nice breather from the intensity of all the other books coming out nowadays. Many that I love, don't get me wrong, but doesn't mean that it isn't nice to have something breezy and refreshing like this. Every month I look forward to seeing the continuation of Paprika's story, and it hasn't disappointed yet. The artwork is animated, dynamic, the colours are so bright and vibrant and gorgeous to look at, another enjoyable issue moving the story along at a nice pace.
Radiant Black #10
This issue was promised to be something very special, and I'm so glad to say that that promise was not only delivered on, but knocked right out of the park. Just simply artistically stunning, I can't wait to see what it looks like in print when I pick up my copy on Wednesday, and I can't even begin to imagine what the Blacklight Edition must look like.
I'm a sucker for cosmic stories, especially with superheroes. So the more and more teases we get about the cosmic side of this series, the more excited it makes me, and this is the most we've gotten yet. This wasn't just a spectacular looking issue, I also loved how it felt like a initial culmination of everything so far. Fom the dramatic conclusion to the first arc, to the conflict at the beginning of the second, from the cliffhanger to last issue, and teasing even more for the future. Then the emotion and heart towards the end of the issue just tops it all off, perfect.
Time Before Time #7
I've got to be honest, I was starting to lose interest in this series midway through the first arc. I liked the way the arc opened and ended but reading month to month the middle didn't too much for me.
But this was a promising start to the second arc. I liked the tease at the beginning of what's building up and was intrigued by the main storyline in the rest of the issue, surrounding one of the characters, that was first introduced in the last arc. That starts to unravel in this issue, especially with the mystery of that ending which I'm looking forward to seeing how it plays out.
As someone who loves a good sci-fi time travel story, this series continues to be not quite what I expected, but putting those expectations aside this was a solid issue with some serious promise and intrigue about where the series is going to go next.
