Blue and Gold Review!

Similar to when I talked about the Fantastic Four: Fate of the Four hardcover (the collection of the 2017-18 Marvel 2-In-One series written by Chip Zdarsky) not a must read but definitely a fun one.

I've always wanted to read some more Booster Gold because I love his costume design and he seems like a cool character whenever I read him, and then especially his dynamic with Blue Beetle (who also has a great costume and seems like a fun character), so this was an entertaining book that I'm glad I finally checked out. Particularly since I liked the look of this book as it was coming out but wanted to wait for the trade.

I loved the art mostly by Ryan Sook in this, it was so dynamic and vibrant, with nice rich colors full of energy. I thought it fit the comedic tone Dan Jurgens was going for with his writing really nicely. There were a few issues where either they had fill-in artists, or Sook had someone else coloring his work, but even those were good considering, if he couldn't do every issue.

On that note though issue 4 was my favourite out of this series. How that incorporated Jurgens and Maguire's art into the story, around Sook's framing scenes, was brilliant and felt like the kind of exciting freshness that made this such a delight to read.

I don't know if unfortunately they can support an ongoing (but who knows) so if not I would still love a sequel series following up on this status quo. I don't know if it will happen but if it did I would probably read it, depending on the creative team. Might be fun to have a fresh writer on the characters, but we'll see if it happens at all.

Definitely need to go back and read comics like JLI, and some other classics featuring Blue and Gold!

Once again worth a read if you're interested and like the characters, it was good fun.
