Invincible is on TV!?

Holy crap. It’s finally here. After years of reading, a bunch of waiting, and stupid COVID, it‘s finally here. Invincible!!!

I can’t tell you how psyched I am for this. I’ve been a fan of Invincible for years and it is one of my all-time favorite comic books. It is also a scientific fact that it is one of the best comics ever made in the history of ever.

Now, I want to quickly discuss some of the awesomeness of this show, but I also don't want to get too spoilery. If you have not read Invincible, there may be some very mild spoilers ahead. I'm currently stalling to give you an opportunity to walk away.

Time's up. I warned you. Pressing on.

We have all seen our share of comic book adaptations on screen. Obviously, for Marvel and DC, these adaptations can span DECADES of comic books. This means we often get some of the same concepts, but not exactly a shot-for-shot remake. It allows for us to read certain chunks of story in order to have the background of the film or show. Invincible is going to be a little different. You will need to read the entire thing at some point. It is a younger book (the age of the book itself...it is definitely not for a younger audience). It is a complete story that goes for 144 issues with the same writer the entire time. However, don't expect an exact replica of the story you've read. In the first three episodes you can already see that, while maintaining the basic story, some adjustments will be made (looking at you Séance Dog). So far, these are welcomed adjustments and the story does not suffer one bit.

What's in the first three episodes? If you haven't watched it, I'm not telling. I will simply recommend reading the first two trades (or at least the first 6-12 issues) before you watch. I will also add that this might be the one occasion where you might be better off to just watch the show first. That physically hurt me to type. I feel dirty for even suggesting such a thing, but I feel that might actually be a smart choice. I'm watching these episodes and I can't help but wonder how I would feel if I knew nothing about this series. Would I be surprised by that one scene? Invinci-heads know which one. Would my mind be blown differently by the general awesomeness of the show?

In any case...

Read it first, watch it first, I don't care. Just be sure to do both. Seriously. Do it. Don't be dumb.

*Quick disclaimer, this show is legit MATURE rated.

Unless you want your kids to hear some harsh language and see heads explode, I suggest you put those little turds in bed before you turn this thing on.*
