IT HAPPENED NERDS, IT REALLY HAPPENED! Legends Of Tomorrow made it to 100 episodes and its 100th ep was the perfect celebration of the best show in the Arrowverse and one of the best superhero shows yet! Let’s get into it!
Those of us that keep us with behind-the-scenes stuff- we all KNEW this was going to be a Gideon-centered ep. It’s absolutely PERFECT for the 100th ep because, while Sara may be the last “OG Legend” left… she isn’t. Gideon has been there since the start as well and she’s seen, heard, and felt it all. Sara Lance may be the beating heart of the Legends, but a heart can’t beat without blood pumping to it. Gideon is the blood of the Legends!

We start off with Astra, Spooner, and Gideon back where they were last ep: attempting to travel to New York to catch up with the other Legends. As we saw last ep, Astra is basically Gideon’s mom now after “resurrecting her” but, well… she’s not really a great parent. Not yet, at least. She continues to try to order Gideon around, makes a big deal out of a pie, and tries to make Gideon get it for her even though she could get it herself??? Wasn’t really sure what the grounds for this were, but in the end, it was absolutely necessary to somehow have Gideon become overloaded and shut down. Once Gideon shuts down, Astra and Spooner hop into her mind to try to put it back together. See how they set this whole seeing Gideon’s memories up? It’s like, they actually found a reason for it to happen or something ;)

Back in the future, we see Bishop-last season's villain- hanging out with one of the early AVAs. He’s starting to remember stuff he shouldn’t, the things that happened with the Legends. Welp, guess we are getting a two-seasons villain peeps!

Hold up, is that Jax?!?! And they let Franz use his British accent on the show?? LIVING FOR IT! Of course, no matter how good with technology and Gideon the others can be, Jax is the only one that truly knows Gideon’s systems best. He tells Astra and Spooner that they have to put Gideon’s key memories back together- the ones that make her, her.
The first memory we see is a recent one, one that, time-wise, happened last season. After the Legends kidnapped Spooner, in hopes that she could help them find Sara, Ava sits with Spooner’s unconscious body in the med bay. She talks with Gideon about how, even if it’s the smallest chance in the universe, she HAS to do this. She has to take a chance on Spooner if it means she can have Sara back. Ava admits it’s not logical- LOVE is not logical.
And y’all, I’m already crying because you know what Gideon said right after that?

IM SOBBING!. AN ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE KNOWS WHAT LOVE FEELS LIKE AND UNDERSTANDS ITS VALUE EVEN THOUGH IT DEFIES LOGIC. AN ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND A CLONE ARE BONDING OVER THE PAIN OF LOVE. I AM CRYING IN THE CLUB YALL!
If you couldn’t already tell, I barely survived this ep y’all, and we are only 10 minutes in.
After this first key memory, Gideon is back online enough to be herself! At least, while she’s still in her own mind. How did THIS key memory do that? Well.. it was when Ava convinced Gideon love was more important than logic.
I’m sorry, I’m crying again. Moving on!
Gideon’s memories are popping up like jackrabbits now and Astra, Spooner, and now Gideon have to get all of them unlocked properly. They have to go WAY back to get them all- time to go back to Season 1 baby!

And then there’s Hawkman, coming in like a wrecking ball that not many have truly missed. (Sorry Hawkman fans, we’re getting a better version of him soon in the DCEU!)
AND THEN THERE'S SEASON 1 SARA LANCE MY PEEPS, GOD BLESS I AM FEELING MANY THINGS

Astra and Spooner look onto the chaos between these OGs and it's hysterical hearing Astra judge Sara’s original costume and seeing how Gideon can’t remember these Legends yet.
The OG’s continue to all bicker and argue until Gideon pulls a major mom over them. Hearing them all immediately stop and go “Yes Ma’am” “Won’t happen again” brings me SO MUCH JOY!!! And I get even more joy from hearing Sara trash being captain of all of them and how she could never do it herself. Boy, do I love some good irony!

Gideon now remembers her OG friends and I’m such a simp for Gideon, but especially happy Gideon!
The next memory is with Martin Stein, shortly after he finds out he’s going to be a grandpa. He’s frolicking around the ship, singing with utter delight about it, and no one is feeling it at his same level- not even Ray. But guess who DOES sing with Stein?? GIDEON!!!

AMY LOUISE PEMBERTON YOU CAN SING THAT WELL??? LEGENDS WRITERS IT TOOK YOU THIS LONG TO LET HER USE HER BRILLIANT VOICE IN THIS LIGHT??! HOLY SH*T! AMY LOUISE PEMBERTON IS A GIFT TO THIS UNIVERSE
You’d think this wonderful memory would only have the best impact on Gideon, but right as this memory starts to end, there’s a security breach on Gideon’s.. Mind??? AI virus anyone???
Well, yes and no. It's EVIL GIDEON!!!! *screeches*

Andddd now Astra, Spooner, and Gideon have to find a way to stop this virus… evil Gideon… thing from corrupting all her memories! In the next memory, we see Rip telling the OG Legends that there is only one bathroom on the ship, and EVERYONE loses it. It’s utterly hilarious, especially when Spooner and Astra assume each Legend that gets aggressive is the “Evil Gideon” in disguise when really… that’s just the OG’s being the OG’s. Until it isn’t. Until “Rip” pulls Gideon aside, isolating her from Astra and Spooner, and is revealed to be this “Evil Gideon”.
Where could this “Evil Gideon” have come from though?? Under what circumstances? Well, remember Bishop in the future? He’s cracked the code to making the original Gideon AI, but somehow, this AI knows the Legends, and now Bishop remembers EVERYTHING. He’s determined to find a way to “make Gideon talk”. Oh god. I’m terrified. LEAVE GIDEON ALONE!
Astra and Spooner realize far too late that Gideon is missing, so late that the memory is “coming to life”. The OG Legends have it out for Spooner and Astra and we all KNOW how deadly these Legends are. Run gays, run!

Back with our Gideon, Evil Gideon reveals her true purpose for all of this erasing and corruption. She believes she was better off only caring about logic and not feeling things like love. She believes that care is a waste of time and a failure. She proceeds to try to prove this to our Gideon, showing her the most PAINFUL memories on Legends of Tomorrow- deaths such as Behrad’s original one, Stein’s death, Snart’s - I AM IN PAIN. WHOEVER PUT THIS PAIN MONTAGE TOGETHER, FUCK YOU, BUT ALSO, HOLY SHIT YOU DID AMAZING

Tying all up in a horrific bow, Evil Gideon shows us a memory of when Rip actually reprogrammed Gideon. He changed her programming so that her main mission was not directly to protect the timeline, but to protect the Legends. He programmed care into her, albeit unwillingly. Evil Gideon points out how this was forced upon her, that she “hasn’t evolved”, she was “corrupted”.

Spooner and Astra are on the MOVE to go save our Gideon, and, in true Legends fashion, they encounter some.. Obstacles. Evil Legends, anyone?

Once Jax shows us that his de-eviling weapon works to turn the Legends back to themselves (I know that’s not what it’s called but we are going with it!), Astra and Spooner know they can do this! Right??
Of course, they run into more Evil Legends, but they easily take out Nate and Zari Tomaz. You know who they don’t take out as easily though??

After a tough fight, Astra and Spooner de-evil Avalance, and next thing we know they are running in to try to help Gideon cope with everything she’s feeling. "How can any of this be worth it??", Gideon cries. HOW CAN FEELING THIS MUCH BE WORTH ANYTHING??

And, just as Ava said at the start of the episode… Love. Love makes it worth it. Love is EVERYTHING. It’s worth it because of the moments that matter most. It’s found in the moments families, born into and found, get together to celebrate each other. It’s found in random kisses out of nowhere and silly string flying onto everyone’s heads. It’s found in getting together and gossiping about the most monotonous and ridiculous things. It’s found in random karaoke nights, even if you suck at singing (love you Sara). It’s found in simply existing with the people you love and protect.

Folks, it’s so beautiful to see that our Gideon now knows the truth. Rip reprogrammed her out of his own selfishness, but at the end of the day, she cares because SHE grew. Because SHE learned to love. Even if Rips’ change in programming had a hand in that, it’s not the only way or the only reason she grew to love. Flashbacks to Ava’s original clone storyline, anyone??

Much like Ava, Gideon is someone who wasn’t born (made?) human, but she is one of the most human characters I’ve ever had the pleasure of watching on television. She recognizes that she needs love and logic to survive and both are important parts of herself. Let this be a lesson to all of us- we need balance, not simply one or the other.
Being human isn’t easy but, as we’ve all learned this episode friends- it’s worth it.

And on that note, Gideon is BACK up and running and back on her journey with Astra and Spooner to New York. But the episode couldn’t end that nicely, could it? Because Bishop is still in the future trying to crack Gideon’s code to force her to talk about where the Legends are and well… he succeeds. He resets her humanity protocol.

Well, folks, I don’t know about you, but this episode made me feel way too human- in the best way possible. What did you think of Legends of Tomorrow’s 100th ep? Did you cry as much as I did? Come let me know on my Twitter, @FriendlyNBHDBi!
