Recap: 7x05 Legends of Tomorrow!

Welcome back Legends!! Last week’s episode was such a blast, I watched it twice in a row. I NEVER do that with television, especially not with episodes that just aired. But here we are! Legends of Tomorrow is in the middle of a great stride with Season 7- but did it continue this episode? Let’s find out!

We start out with The Bullet Blonde Squad and Zari Tomaz in New York City. That’s right, they made it! Gary didn’t f*ck it up, for once!

in case you haven’t noticed, I’ve never quite forgiven Gary for his horrible mistakes. What can I say, I know how to hold a grudge.

Gary lets Sara, Ava, and Behrad out of the pocket dimension and, forgetting they are still The Bullet Blondes in this time, the three of them run around with Gary to get some real food, like pizza. They end up having a run-in with a shopkeeper though, and after he insists there is no way they could be good ol’ Canadians, he pulls a shotgun on Ava and Sara. Of course, Sara is not about to let her wife get shot whether she’s invulnerable or not! She shoves Ava out of the way just as she is BLASTED with some shotgun shells.

NEVER take a shotgun close range kids, alright???

After Behrad disarms the shopkeeper using his air totem, he rushes over with Ava to help get Sara up. We see here that, while Sara has a healing factor, she is still not immune to pain.

There are SO many things to say about this one screenshot. Oh my god.

Back in the pocket dimension, Zari Tomaz is hard at work on figuring out how the Hoover bot works and who made him, while Nate is hard at work at trying to enjoy time with Zari while avoiding the serious conversation they need to have. I mean, why talk about serious things when you can have donuts?

Sara, Ava, Behrad, and Gary return to the pocket dimension and Sara insists she is fine when Zari and Nate show concern, while Ava is still stressed about the fact she had to see her wife take a shotgun at close range for her.

Y’all, every time I think I know how in love Sara and Ava are and how sappy they are, one or both of them do something that makes me SCREECH in sappiness. Oh my god. Just as Sara reassures Ava she’s fine, and we see the others start chatting about the Hoover bot, we see Ava sit down and kiss the area of Sara’s abdomen where her now-healed wound is.

Look I am WAY too sapphic and WAY too deprived of affection right now to handle this. Oh my GOD. SO. SOFT.

Anyways, catch me trying to find air to breathe. We see that Zari Tomaz has a decent hang of the Hoover bot’s programming. He keeps running his mouth about being a “patriot” so Zari simply mutes him. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could just mute some people? Definitely playing god, but.. It would be nice sometimes heh.

Back on track, the Legends remind us viewers that they need to try to get information about where Gwyn Davies could be. In case you forgot, they need Gwyn Davies to invent time travel for them so they can get back to their current time and get the Waverider back!

We have another genius plan folks! (did you detect the sarcasm here?) Sara and Gary are just gonna go steal Davies’ research, build his time machine themselves, and get back to 2021! Woohoo! Sooooo easy, right?

After Ava’s reluctant blessing and a firm reminder to avoid leaving large footprints on the timeline, Sara and Gary go out to execute the plan. We see Gwyn Davies for the first time and, according to Gary and Sara, he looks like “Mick, with hair” or a “young Martin Stein”. Not like, ya know, John Constantine, the other character Matt Ryan has played on this show LOL. We love a writers room that has a good sense of humor!

ah yes, young Martin Stein totally had a big, fluffy beard and John’s eyes, right?

Can we also talk about Sara’s look here? Because, while her long hair is the best, this short hair is -doing- things to me!

God, I love seeing Sara do the sneaky-sneak again and so easily steal Davies’ files in PLAIN SIGHT. Like, either Davies is a fool or Sara is that good (I’d wager a bit of both. Davies is clearly an academic genius but.. otherwise)

Sara acting innocent will never not be funny

And we are only 6 minutes in folks because it's time for the greatest Legends theme yet and to check in with our other Legends: Astra, Spooner, and Gideon! In case you forgot, they are on a mission to make it to NYC as well, not only to meet up with the rest of the team but to keep them from blowing themselves up via the time machine they plan to use!

the way they are all lined up by height in this shot? So aesthetically pleasing to me

seeing Spooner and Gideon speak spanish to each other? I’m on my knees

Right now, they need to speed up their travel. At this rate, they will get to NYC in 2 weeks, and that is nowhere soon enough. They try to hitchhike, but it doesn’t work- until Astra uses a “spell” to make a stone she finds “lucky”. All of a sudden, they’re able to hitch a ride!

Tag yourself, I'm Gideon being like wtf is this

Back with the rest of the team, Behrad and Zari confirm that it’ll take about 5 years to make Davies’ time machine. Well, that just won’t do!

Look, we been knew I’m a simp for Sara. I just didn’t know I could be MORE of a simp for her. My god.

Ava reminds Sara that they can make it work, to which Sara reluctantly agrees- at least until she remembers she can drink booze- she’s not so reluctant now! “I totally support that, *after* you ninja Davies’ files back into his apartment”, Ava tells Sara, catching her arm before she can grab a bottle of booze. Yes, Ava just told her wife that she supports her getting wasted just as long as she *ninjas* Davies’ files back. Yes, ninjas is now a verb.

The way that Ava saying “yes my sexy ninja wife, get wasted but be smart first pls” warms my heart is absurd

With the understanding that she can get wasted afterward, Sara *ninjas* into Davies’ apartment and, not only finds him sleeping but finds out that he’s actually already built his time machine!

Don’t mind me, I’m just going to marry this shot.

True to her word, Sara succeeds in leaving Davies’ files in his apartment and she’s now getting liquored up. Specifically, she’s drinking out of a liquor bottle with Rip Hunter’s name on it. TALK ABOUT POETRY. GET WRECKED RIP.

She may not be an assassin anymore, but that doesn’t mean she stops drinking the blood of her enemies- i mean, what?

Behrad declares that they need just one more part for Davies’ machine and Sara’s like “SCAVENGER HUNT TIME”, to which Gary says that would be great, as he “loves to give himself to all things or even people”, and he glares directly at Nate. In case you forgot, Gary reminded Nate last ep that he needs to talk to Zari Tomaz about how they are going to *actually* make their relationship work, and Nate is *still* being stubborn about it.

The best part of this exchange is Zari has no idea what’s happening, so she leans into Nate and asks, “Did you and Gary hook up? I won’t be mad. I will be confused.”

LMAO the way Zari is just like “if you cheated it’s cool, but like.. GARY?” Also, the way Zari is basically just like I know you’re bi babe WATERED MY CROPS. BI NATE RIGHTS

The conversation of what plan to carry out with Davies’ time machine continues, and eventually, Sara’s plan wins out

“It’s a footprint, but it’s a baby footprint, and everyone LOVES baby footprints!” We love a slightly wasted Sara

Back with Astra, Spooner, and Gideon, the hitchhiker that stopped for them has a car that needs fixing before it can go anywhere. They are still effectively stuck. Spooner is heavily invested in how helpful Astra’s “Lucky Rock” can be and, after holding it for a few moments, another car stops to pick them up. Driven by Erwin George Baker, otherwise known as the racecar driver Cannonball, Spooner is hype- the “Lucky Rock” worked again!

Full speed ahead to NYC!

In the pocket dimension, Ava, Nate, Zari, and Behrad discover, through looking at the Hoover bot’s programming, that not only does it have a to-do list, but #4 on it is to “eliminate the Legends”. Yet, whoever made the Hoover bot cares about the timeline. What a mix-up!

Well, the EP’s of LoT did say it wasn’t a hard mystery as to who the villain is this season, huh Bishop?

Nate and Zari end up having “the talk”, which seemed less like a serious talk to me and more a “omg, let’s move in together!” chat. Nate initially says that he and Zari could live together in the pocket dimension and, while Zari originally agrees, it’s clear that she’s not completely on the same page as him. Eventually, Zari candidly tells Nate that she’d rather him move into the totem with her. Um, what?

Zari, I love you, but I’m not sure I’d move into a whole ass totem with you.

While the rest of the team is occupied with it all, Sara and Gary travel back to Gwyn Davies’ office. Gary starts looking through Davies’ tools to find the missing piece while Sara distracts Davies. Gary succeeds in finding the missing piece, but he also ends up being the one to get Davies in trouble with Edison. Whelp, sorry Davies, Edison is an asshole. Poor Davies ends up in a mental institution as Edison calls his time machine project “a fool’s errand”.

In not her best moment, Sara leaves Davies to the wills of the mental institution, even though she’s horrified about him ending up there. Her and Gary bring the piece back to the rest of the team and Behrad puts the final piece in it, but with that final piece being put in by Behrad and not Gwyn Davies, Ava and Gary… Disappear! NOOOOOO!!!! If Davies doesn’t finish the machine himself, then The Time Bureau never exists, and therefore.. Ava and Sara never meet.

File this under “images that precede disaster”

NOPE I CANT DO THIS I KNOW AVA’S COMING BACK AND IM STILL NOT OKAY BRING HER BACK

Sara, in full panic mode, preps to go break Davies out of the mental institution, while Zari programs Hoover to help her and Nate go get back Davies’ original plans from Edison. Zari and Nate successfully get back Davies’ files, but not before the Hoover Bot blows up and Edison is accidentally killed. Oops? Time for ANOTHER Hoover bot and a brand-spanking-new Edison bot.

Can I just say how funny it is that they have Sara go break Davies out of the mental institution? She’s always the one that ends up there and always with a character of Matt Ryan’s! In season 3, Sara and Constantine were in a mental institution together (and slept together, don’t worry about it), and now in Season 7, Sara is in a mental institution breaking Davies out. Absolutely wild! But this time, well, this character of Matt Ryan’s isn’t as comfortable with Sara- Davies panics at seeing her and, after Sara pulls a knife on him to try to force him into submission, he panics even more- understandably so.

I mean, I gotta be honest, I’d be panicking for different reasons. My bi ass.

Once Sara pulls the knife away from Davies’ throat, she watches him fall to the floor and realizes that Davies is an actual human who is having a panic attack. She’s definitely been lacking empathy and, with this realization, she sits down and tells him why he and his work are so important- for history and to herself. It turns out, being a human with empathy is actually effective! Who’d have thunk it?

“You invented time travel, and it’s because of you that so many things become possible, including me meeting my wife. Yeah, I’m still getting used to saying that” I GUESS ILL JUST GET USED TO BEING ON THE FLOOR IN TEARS

Astra, Spooner, and Gideon take a stop with their new racecar driver, but, unfortunately, while Astra, Spooner, and Cannonball are out of the car, a random biker steals their car- with Gideon in it. ASTRA AND SPOONER GET YOUR PARENTING SKILLS TOGETHER PLS

Sara brings Davies to the other Legends and the time machine and has him put in the piece and AVA IS BACK GOD BLESS LETS GO AVALANCE RIGHTS-

Oh, yeah, and Gary is back too. Woo.

F*CK OFF GARY

With that said, The Bullet Blonde Legends gang is ready to attempt to time travel, but, did y’all forget??? If they try to do it, THEY WILL ALL EXPLODE!! NOOOOOO! And Astra and Spooner can’t make it to them in time- especially after Astra reveals her “Lucky Rock” is fake!! OMG! WHAT WILL THEY DO??

TRACK NATION GIDEON, GO GO GO!

Never fear y’all, because between Gideon beating up the car thief and RUNNING THE REST OF THE WAY TO THE LEGENDS, and Astra using her magic to cause a power blackout throughout the entire city, they successfully stop the other Legends from blowing themselves up, using their OWN abilities and intellect. No “Lucky Rock” needed!

AND they regroup with the rest of the team. FINALLY! ALL THE LEGENDS TOGETHER AGAIN! BLESS!

With the power still out and Zari is installing the *correct* piece into the time machine to make sure they don’t blow up, Sara and Ava step away to have a moment. Sara still feels awful about making the wrong call and, well, even though Ava would totally agree Sara should’ve listened to her- she doesn’t care. She knows Sara needs her comfort right now, so she listens and reassures Sara it’s okay. She’s here now. I’m all soft again because we’ve seen how great Sara is at comforting Ava these last few episodes, but now we get to also see how good Ava is at comforting Sara. It’s so nice to see this mutual give and take between the two of them. They both have their moments where they struggle and they both take turns supporting and lifting each other up.

God, it’s me, please send me a relationship like Avalance, pls and thank

It's fine, ill just throw myself into the sun with everything I'm feeling right now

And just like that, the time machine is ready to go safely! They all pop in and get ready to head to Tahiti 2021 (there’s a Time Bureau safe house there apparently, and Avalance are still dying for their honeymoon. Can you blame them?)

FAMILY TIME!

Did you guess it? Did you guess that things would NOT go according to plan again? Well, you guessed right, because once they get out of the 1920s, we see they are *clearly* not in Tahiti in 2021. Whoops?

Gary, STEP AWAY FROM GIDEON! NO SIR! SHE IS A LESBIAN!

That’s it, folks! The Legends are out of the 1920’s, but now they are.. Somewhere and sometime they don’t want to be. Anybody see the promo for next week? Where and when are they?

I absolutely adored this episode! This season continues to be absolutely phenomenal. Every time I think Legends is going down in quality they come back so strong! What did you think of the episode? Come yell at me about it on Twitter @FriendlyNBHDBI and I’ll see you next week for another recap!
