The Me You Love In The Dark FINAL ISSUE #5 REVIEW

It’s finally here Pull-Heads! The final issue in Scottie Young and Jorge Corona’s twisted, self-seeing romance horror hit shops today and it is a beaut!

Image Comics investment in this series paid off with a magnificent ending. While the ending may not be the most original ending I’ve ever seen in a comic…. It didn’t need to be. This series told the story of finding ourselves and trusting ourselves in a new and refreshing darkness. Yup, I said darkness, not light!

Jorge Corona’s art was the biggest highlight of this series. The dark, horrific atmosphere grew with each issue, just as the main character Ro fell further and further away from herself. Isn’t it haunting, how sometimes the more we think we are finding ourselves, the more we are actually losing ourselves? Corona’s art showcases this each and every issue, getting darker, creepier, and further from reality all the way until the last page of this final issue.

All that isn’t to say that Young’s story wasn’t fantastic. Without his brilliant story and script of self-realization and the horrific path that can lead to it, Corona’s art wouldn’t have been able to tell Ro’s complete story!

Overall, I’m thrilled with this series. On the surface, it may seem all too simple, but anyone with a creative bone in their body knows all too well how deep this tale runs. This is the creative process no one talks about. This is what it’s like being “so talented, but truly tragic”. This is what creating art in any way is like. Thank you to Young and Corona for creating a beautiful series!

If you missed out on it, be sure to check out The Me You Love In The Dark, issues 1-5 in shops NOW!
