We are back with your Weekly Comic Round-Up! Now, we know, some people were saying it was a slow week in comics, but for some of us, it was one of our biggest weeks! The more comics you get, the harder it is to pick your top books, but here we are with our top 4 picks of the week! Let's get into it!
Lauren’s Picks

Tom King is always a huge hit or a huge miss. I am SO happy to say that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is a HUGE HIT! This is exactly the kind of story Kara Zor-El needed to help catapult her to being praised as one of DC’s best (as she is!). Though this line can be too wordy for me at times, I love Kara’s characterization here, and I adore how an outside narrator unveils a new perspective on the woman of steel. Kara deserves to have beautiful, tough, nitty-gritty, and heartwarming stories too, just like Clark. Here’s to hoping this is the first of many iconic stories for Kara Zor-El, the Woman of Tomorrow!

Finally, a line that focuses on the Amazons, their heritage, and their mythology- and not under Diana’s veil! This story is an absolute triumph and is a great example of why women-led, women-told stories are so important. It’s the perfect balance of Amazon Mythology, world-building, and character development. I can’t recommend this enough!

If you know me, then you know I love the X-Men. I love Daredevil. I love many Marvel books, but I dare say, Moon Knight is the BEST Marvel book right now! And I’m not even a long-time Moon Knight fan! This series is the perfect jumping on point for anyone. If you have known Moon Knight for years and have been thirsting for some great content, here it is! If you’ve never read Moon Knight in your life and need somewhere to start, start here! This is completely a character driven book; you’ll fall in love with Moon Knight quicker than you can say “what’s going on?”. The plot is great too- because of who Moon Knight is, it focuses a lot on how trauma and spirituality affect someone. I think almost anyone can relate to one or both of those ideas. That said, it’s not all sad- there’s great humor that flows in each issue beautifully. Moon Knight does it all! Pick it up and get ready for that Disney Plus Series coming soon!

I wasn’t even going to pick this up. Truly, I haven’t been the biggest fan of Tynion’s Batman run. It has it’s good moments, but for the most part, it’s been.. Mediocre, to me. Until I read this- and of course my fav issue of his Batman universe is one of the last he writes! Tynion writes his new characters the best; the characters that he can build a world around, not just try to “make it work”. The Gardener is one of my favorite characters after finishing this issue! She’s bright, cunning, relatable, empathetic, and chilling all at once. I loved learning about her and Ivy’s history and why The Gardener is motivated. While her and Ivy share a cause, they do not have the same intent or means. A truly GORGEOUS issue art-wise as well; reminds me of the coloring by Mike Spicer in The Swamp Thing. As long as future writers continue what Tynion has set up, I believe The Gardener could become one of the most important Batman characters yet. Also- yes, this is very gay, and yes that’s important! For what it is, this issue was fun and a nice conclusion to the Fear State tie-ins that have ran across the last few issues. The art was solid, and it was nice seeing Nightwing interact with some of the bat family. I haven’t been reading the main Fear State issues, but I liked following this side-quest back to Gotham during the event. That said, I’m very much looking forward to this run getting back on track and seeing where Taylor and Redondo take it next.

When I first heard it was coming I wasn’t exactly sure what I would think of this series, but I am absolutely loving it. The main Spawn title is very much doing it’s own thing, it feels very broad in scope and more about the general universe and various stories here and there. This book however has much more of a clear direction. Every issue has such an epic feel to it, due in no small part to the incredibly awesome artwork within, and I’m just consistently excited to see where it goes. A fun, epic, awesome Spawn read check it out if you haven’t been reading this series!

This was a great issue. A bit of a quick read, but a nice one nonetheless, especially considering the interactions between Jon and Jay towards the end of the issue leading up to what I’m sure what we’ve all heard about by now. I’m not quite sure how to phrase it, but it was a very calming and wholesome read. Superhero comics can get very dramatic these days, but here we have just an issue where Superman tries to help as many people as he can, before having to go home and becoming more than just friends with a guy he’s gotten close to. It just warms my heart. Representation matters, always. Also, I have got to say, I loved the art in this issue. Maybe it’s because I love Hi-Fi’s work, maybe it’s because Timms didn’t do last issue. Probably a bit of both, but I thought there were some really nice shots of the scenery and background in this issue, looked really good. Loved the art in general but a few shots that just particularly caught my eye.
ComiXology

Man. I needed no convincing to read this book, but I am just loving it. The post Metal Justice League series that Snyder wrote was the first series I picked up monthly, from the start, through all 39 issues. Which is a lot for me, no other series has lasted on my pull that long since then, just yet. Manapul and Buccelato’s Flash was the first series I ever read, whatsoever.
So those two creators coming together was always going to be special to me, plus the great work of AndWorld Design, and an awesome concept that is absolutely the sort of thing I would be into, and you have a glorious book that two issues in hasn’t disappointed yet. #1 focused more on the concept, featuring some utterly STELLAR work by Manapul that was easily some of the best of his career so far (which is saying something), but this issue focused more on the main character and the mystery at hand actually driving the story. It just showed that as well as the wild art of the last issue and the world in general, Manapul also excelled at showing the less wild looking backstory of the character, even the quieter moments just seem filled with awe. There’s just something about how smooth and vibrant his style is that I adore and this series is the best example of that.
Loved the story, adored the artwork, two of my favourite creators making something truly special with this that you do not want to miss out on! Free to read on the Kindle app with Prime, definitely worth checking out.
