Hi there everyone, Your Friendly Neighborhood Bi, Lauren, and your friend JoeLovesComics here! We decided to start combining our favorite comics each week into a mass Weekly Roundup for your reading pleasure!! This week, in particular, there were SO many new releases and so many books to talk about, so it was very hard to narrow it down, but we both picked our top 4 picks of the week! Let's get into it!

Y’all, I never thought I’d see Star Wars themes mesh up with X-Men themes so well, but here we are! I absolutely LOVE seeing these rag-tag (Minus Emma Frost, of course) X-Men in space! In particular, I’m a HUGE fan of Emma Frost and Kate Pryde’s friendship. I’m trying not to think of them any other way… anyways! A FANTASTIC issue!

This run is my first time with Moon Knight and let me tell you.. I absolutely adore how character-driven this line is. I gave issue 1 a shot on a whim and it’s been beyond worth every issue so far. Batman fans, remember when you first read your favorite Batman origin, whether it’s Year One or something else, and how that one characterization of him solidified your love for him? If you’re not a Batman fan, think of literally any other character you’ve fallen in love with just because of who they are and the great origin they were given. That’s what this line does for Moon Knight- it gives him a great origin and can make anyone fall in love with his character, new fans, or old fans. I also loved Tigra in this issue and her friendship with Moon Knight. 100% this is shaping up to be one of the best current Marvel lines, easily!

If y’all don’t already know, I am a HUGE X-Men fan and this Krakoan era has been nothing short of amazing- mostly due to Jonathan Hickman’s original start to the era, House of X/Powers of X. I was worried how Inferno would go, based on the current X books and how many of them have been seemingly ignoring what Hickman’s tale originally started, but yall?? HICKMAN HAS BROUGHT IT BACK and it’s so good! I don’t want this event to end! This is what the era is all about; all the chess pieces are flying everywhere and it's very validating to see multiple of the chess pieces are powerful LGBTQ+ characters! I cannot recommend this enough- if you haven’t been reading X-Men, come bother me on Twitter and I’ll get you started easily! It’s WORTH it!
Joe Loves Comics' Picks!

From the moment this was announced I was endlessly excited about this. I mean, a series spinning off one of my favourite books ever, deepening the already intriguing mythology, featuring a compelling protagonist I was desperate to know more about, not to mention how “it gets even more complicated when Aaron falls for a mysterious boy destined to be his competition”. Like it already had so much going for it, and it’s also gay. Like yes please, thank you. This was just such a promising first issue, the artwork was awesome, obviously noticeably different to Dell'Edera’s but thanks to Muerto’s magnificent colouring it had the same stylistic feel which I loved. If you’ve been liking SITKC, pick this up. If you haven’t been reading SITKC, read that as well, but pick this up you’ll be fine. Or if you just want to support gay comics don’t miss out on this!

This was an epic issue! It wasn’t at all on my radar originally, but I’m glad I picked it up as I really enjoyed it. I flicked through Darkhold Alpha and Darkhold Iron Man when they came out but didn’t get them. I flicked through this on Wednesday, was immediately captivated by the art style but wasn’t quite sure whether to grab it. Then over the next couple days, I saw mixed reviews of it, so when I saw it in an LCS I was near yesterday I had to pick it up to see what it was like. It was just a super fun, one and done, What If style issue. I loved the idea of it and the art style had a dark but neo synth colour palette to it that I just adored. If I didn’t already know it was only a one-shot I could have believed it was just a single issue in a larger alternate reality event, it just had that sort of feeling to it. Loved it, great issue.

DAMN! First of all, what a cover. So dynamic and fluid and the red is so vibrant against the white background and the black it’s an incredible cover. This was just in general an incredible issue. It felt tense, it felt grounded (which considering the concepts and the characters involved isn’t necessarily the easiest to do), it was action-packed and I loved the way it ended, capping off this story arc and nicely leading into the final issue before Devil’s Reign. The issue was set at night, so the backgrounds had an awesome noir feel to them, making the characters in the foreground really stand out, especially the red of the Daredevil costume. Loved it, so excited to see what’s to come next.

Honestly, it was an awesome week of new comics. There were quite a few comics I enjoyed, but I immediately knew after finishing this it would be my pick of the week, it was just so much fun! This series just continues to be such an enjoyable read each issue. It’s an awesome premise that keeps developing nicely, each issue is such a satisfying and fulfilling read in its own right, but equally the ongoing story is moving along at a good pace, which I absolutely love to see in a monthly title. That balance is such an important factor to me with a book I’m reading monthly, and this series nails it and that’s part of what makes it so fun. Love the characters, their dynamics feel fleshed out which makes the tournament feel that much more dramatic and compelling to read. The artwork fits the book perfectly, there were some intriguing developments here and I’m looking forward to seeing how this series continues. Definitely something worth checking out!
